The Gift of Animals: Poems in Celebration of Animals and the People Who Love Them, edited by Alison Hawthorne Deming includes a stunning range of poetry celebrating the power of the human/animal connection. Stay tuned for details as pub date approaches in spring 2025.

A sixth collection of AHD poems, Blue Flax and Yellow Mustard Flower will also be out by summer of 2025. The title refers to the beautiful crops that grow on farmland in North Dakota where our nuclear missiles await deployment in their siloes. This book, written in a time when we could not travel due to the pandemic, looks at the bounty and contradictions to be found in travels to the Galapagos, Cuba, Spain, Greece, the poet’s beloved homelands of the Sonoran Desert and the Canadian Maritimes, and the America of our troubling time.

Poems from the collection have been published in Scientific American, About Place Journal, New England Review,, Kenyon Review, Alaska Quarterly Review, Cherry Tree, and Plant-Human Quarterly.
